This easy, 5-ingredient pizza dough recipe is so simple and easy to make that you’ll be making your own pizza every Friday night from now on.
We have a weekly tradition around our place that Fridays are for pizza. With three growing children ordering take-out can get a bit pricey. Not to mention, no pizza place will deliver to us (45 mins out of town). And, even if they could, it would probably be lukewarm by the time they reached us. So, this recipe is out of necessity as well.
And, because this recipe only requires a handful of ingredients, anyone can make it.
- Flour
- Yeast
- Water
- Olive Oil
- Herbs / Salt *optional
PLUS, it doesn’t require a ridiculous amount of wait time for the dough to be ready either. I’ve skipped the resting time before, in pinch, and the dough still turned out fluffy and yummy.
Just add yeast, sugar and 1/2 the warm water. Stir and let the yeast start to foam. Once it’s frothy, measure out and add the remainder water, olive oil and flour. Mix with your dutch whisk until a shaggy ball forms. I then knead the dough until the dough is incorporated and shiny. Drizzle some olive oil in the bowl and allow the dough to rest in it for ~30-60 minutes. I’ve skipped this step before.
De-gas with a punch and drop on to a clean, floured surface. Divide the dough into two balls.
Roll out one with hands or dough roller. You can make it a square, oval, or round – which ever the dough prefers.
To bake, I dust cornmeal on the pan before putting the dough on the pizza pan. This allows pizza to come off the pan easier. Bake at 450 Fahrenheit. Remove once the crust is a golden brown. I like to then brush melted butter on the crust and dust with garlic salt.
Give this recipe a try and come back to let me know how you liked it and how you topped your pizza.
This simple, no-fuss pizza dough recipe costs less than $5 to make. But, if you add in sauce, cheese, and pepperoni, it’s probably closer to about $8 to make.
