'Round Our Hearth
Ever feel like your to-do list is running on espresso while your soul’s running on empty? Same. Between sports, volunteering, and picking squash, I realized I was trading quiet time with God for busyness — and that’s the quickest road to burnout. This week, I’m sharing what Scripture says about rest, how Jesus modeled it, and how I’m learning to find peace in the pause.
Finding gratitude, humor, and God’s hand in the slow, ordinary weeks of life. A gentle reminder that even in still seasons, He’s at work.
Sometimes God calls us to let go of things that look good in order to prepare us for something better. This week on the farm, I learned that lesson firsthand while pulling out healthy tomato plants to make room for new growth. In this post, I reflect on women of Scripture—Mary, Hannah, Ruth, and others—who surrendered “good things” for God’s greater plan, and how we can trust Him to do the same in our lives.
This week tested me as a mom—ER visits, sports, exhaustion, and doing it all in “single-parent ops” as my husband was out of town. But God showed me the fruit of abiding in Him and the gift of community when I needed it most. A reminder for every tired mom that you don’t have to carry it all.
This week I built five DIY raised garden beds to make gardening easier on my back and knees. After sketching out a simple plan, gathering supplies, and learning a few lessons along the way (like staining wood before the rain hits!), I now have sturdy 4×8 beds ready for spring planting. In this post, I’ll share the step-by-step process, my supply list, tips I wish I’d known before starting, and why raised beds are worth the effort. Whether you’re looking for a back-friendly way to garden, hoping to save money by building your own, or just curious how long it really takes, this guide will walk you through it.
Life is fragile, and eternity is forever. After a week filled with heartbreaking headlines, I was reminded how quickly our days pass and how important it is to live with purpose. In this post, I reflect on what it means to “number our days” (Psalm 90:12), share a conversation I had with my son about the brevity of life, and explore why we as believers are called to live boldly for Christ. My prayer is that these words encourage you to live each day with intention, holding tightly to God’s promises and keeping eternity in view.
Learning something new as an adult can feel uncomfortable—but it’s also one of the best gifts we can give ourselves. In this post, I share my journey of embracing the role of “beginner” again, from blogging to gardening to joining Vets on the Farm here in Spokane. Being a beginner comes with challenges—like self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the temptation to rush progress—but it also opens the door to growth, resilience, and fresh purpose. Whether you’re starting a new hobby, career, or season of life, this post will encourage you to face the unknown with patience, humor, and faith. Because being a beginner isn’t failure—it’s the start of a new chapter, and God’s grace covers us every step of the way.
Back-to-school season often brings mom guilt—wondering if we’ve done enough, signed up for the right activities, or helped our kids belong. But mom guilt doesn’t have the final say. In this post, I share our military family’s story of starting at a new school, the emotions that come with it, and the truths God used to remind me of His grace. If you’re a mom wrestling with back-to-school stress, transitions, or letting go, this is a reminder that God’s grace meets us right where we are.
Waiting is never easy—but God often does His deepest work in us during the seasons of delay. In this post, I share what I’m learning about patience, trust, and hope while waiting on God’s timing. With scripture encouragement and real-life reflections, this is a reminder that “not yet” doesn’t mean “never.”
30 days in, one broken tractor shear pin and a Frankenstein brush hog, 9 cuddling chicks and LOTS of dirty under our nails and new callouses in our palms. Our first month on the property has been equal parts grit and grace. From tractor troubles to deer-sized buffet raids on our little orchard it’s been an interesting learning curve. Come see what we’ve accomplished, what’s tested our patience and what’s next on our little property.
Feeling worn out from doing good? You’re not alone. In this encouraging reflection on Galatians 6:9, we’re talking perseverance, patience, and why rest days are biblical. Let’s keep planting seeds—even when the fruit feels far off.
What do sawdust, stubborn screws, and a half-finished chicken coop have in common?
A surprising amount of spiritual insight. In this post, I’m sharing five unexpected faith lessons I learned while turning an old shed into a home for our future flock. From measuring twice to dropping the drill bit (again), come see how God shows up in the grit, the grind, and the grace of getting it done—slowly.
This week, we spent a lot of time walking the land—watching where the sun rises and sets, tracking the breeze, and getting a feel for how the seasons might impact us here in the Pacific Northwest. After years of dreaming, we’re finally standing on the land God provided, and there’s an undeniable sense of responsibility in that.
There’s also a strong temptation to rush in and do all the things.
Step into this week’s post with me as we discovery that not all projects are as simple as. they may first appear.
Have you ever been praised for “doing it all,” but secretly felt like you were barely holding it together?
Have you chased dreams, managed dinner, wiped tears, changed diapers, answered emails, and still laid in bed wondering if it was enough?
Our culture loves the Wonder Woman Mom and celebrates hustle and grind—but is that really biblical?
Just the other day, Luke and I were daydreaming together, and we agreed that we wanted to start off on the right foot with this property. Before we set up a single bed, before we put toilet paper in bathrooms, before our first meal – we want to ask God’s blessing on the home and property and dedicate it to God’s purpose.
Join me this week as we explore the 9 verses we will be praying over our new home. Whether you’re stepping into a brand-new home or simply feeling called to rededicate the space you already have, these Scriptures offer a beautiful foundation to invite God’s presence into your household. You don’t need a formal ceremony or a perfect setting—just a willing heart and a desire to align your home with His will.
It’s easy to eat out every night, and the kids would prefer it since it feels like a treat. But there’s a real problem with relying on restaurants every day. Not only is it unhealthy, but it’s also expensive. Join me this week as we explore some ways we have been saving money on food while living in a hotel.
There’s something about old cookbooks that feels like home. The kind you find tucked away in an old thrift store, pages stained with oil and filled with elegant cursive in the margins. These books weren’t just cookbooks – they were love letters to family life, scribbled in shorthand. The recipes inside weren’t just instructions, they were traditions, love and memories.

In this post, I get real about inheriting a 400-sq-ft garden I wasn’t ready for—and how God turned that reluctant patch into my spiritual classroom. Between dizzying migraines, late-night YouTube deep dives, and a clear Word from the Lord (“Steward what I’ve given you”), I learned three life-changing truths about patience, preparation, and the power of tiny, faithful steps. If you’re stuck in a “waiting room” season or itching to see your own dreams take root, join me for honest storytelling, scripture encouragement (Matthew 25:21; Romans 8:25), and a simple 3-step plan to get growing right where you are.
